5 Thought Friday

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! 5 Thoughts to end the year!

1.       What I am currently reading, viewing, or listening to:

  • Change Your Posture, Change Your Life; Richard Brennan

  • After a slight tweak in my back this week at the gym, I decided to re-read this book and remind myself of all the “gifts” that come along with great posture.

  • The Alexander Technique, described in this book, is so simple, yet so powerful….so check it out if you want to improve your back alignment, posture, and other ancillary benefits like lowering stress along with more relaxed breathing.

2.       Gratitude Practice (for improved happiness):

  • Grateful for all the support from friends, family, and fellow life coaches as I finally earned my professional coaching certification this week.

  • Check out my certification HERE!

3.       Wellness ideas to consider:

  • Learning the Alexander Technique, improved body alignment/posture consists of four stages:

    • Becoming aware of all postural habits that cause or exacerbate a lack of coordination and general misuse of yourself.

    • Releasing the unwanted tension accumulated over many years of standing, moving, or sitting in an uncoordinated manner.

    • Learning new ways of moving, standing, or sitting that is easier and more efficient and that puts less stress on the body, thus reducing excessive wear and tear on the bones and joints as well as allowing all the internal organs space to function naturally.

    • Learning new ways of reacting physically, emotionally, and mentally to various situations.

4. What I’m eating, drinking, buying, or whatever else is on my mind:

  • For full transparency, I have been eating everything the past week from Christmas eve to Christmas day to Boxing day foodfests (with a touch of wine)!

  • I gained a few kilos but I am not kicking myself as the plan to indulge was intentional and delightful for the holiday season.

  • January will bring big gains as I get back to a healthier eating program and gym routine. The point is that we are all human and will have our ups and downs but take it all in stride, learn from the past, and move forward more energized and positive!

5. Quote(s) I am Pondering:

  • “In order to start to improve our posture, it is essential that we treat the body, mind, and emotions as a whole and not look upon them as separate entities.” Change Your Posture, Change Your Life. Richard Brennan

  • A bit deep when it comes to posture, but our body’s non-verbal communication is our outwardly visible sign of what is going on within us mentally and emotionally. Relax the mind and the body follows.

Happy Friday!

Mike
