Personal Mission Statement
“Be my best, authentic self by focusing on wellness, self-improvement, and giving back by inspiring others!”

The SleepMindHeart philosophy originated with the development of my Personal Mission Statement over 5 years ago. I was running a small integrated resort in Vietnam; entertaining customers, managing a staff of over 1,000, checking emails every 2 minutes, and on-call 24x7. I was purely focused on saving enough money to hit some imaginary target, accumulating things to impress others, and “being successful”. I was taught as a young adult that all of those would bring happiness in the future. However, I was simply getting burned out and that is the problem when you always look to the future. You forget about the happiness and pleasure in the present moment.
Therefore, in 2014, I finally had the courage to walk into work one day and quit my job (of course, after getting my 85-year-old Italian mother’s blessing). I had finally decided to take my first 1-year sabbatical from the working world, focus on myself and discover what I wanted to be as an individual. I began to contemplate what would really make me a better, stronger, happier individual. Basically, a journey to re-energize and reinvent myself!
From that new beginning, I realized I wanted to be physically and mentally stronger, while at the same time deepening the relationships with my family and friends (Wellness). I wanted to be a little better tomorrow than I am today (Self-Improvement). I also wanted to give back to the community, since there is no better way of being happy than by sharing with others (Giving Back).
With that as my foundation, in order to achieve those core principles, I realized I had to be focused and present every single day. This starts by waking up energized and ready to be your best self daily (Sleep). It also requires you to take a calm and deliberate approach to each and every day through mindfulness and brain health (Mind). Lastly, it means staying physically fit and caring for others (Heart). With this as my mission, SleepMindHeart was conceptualized.
I hope you enjoy the blog and the journey! Mike
