Strategy on exercise for longevity!

1.       What I am currently reading, viewing, or listening to:

  • Peter Attia Podcast with Dr. James O’Keefe. How to exercise for longevity: It’s much different than training for an athletic event.

  • Minute 55 to 1:05:00 was eye-opening for me that talked about THIS study from Denmark. It noted the three best exercises to increase longevity are tennis, badminton, and golf.

  • Also, check out the diet protocol being recommended by Dr. O’Keefe in #3 below

2.       Gratitude Practice (for improved happiness):

  • Grateful for the calming benefits of my daily meditation practice. I passed the 10,000 meditation minute mark (1,000 sessions) on my Headspace App this week.

  • I would highly recommend Headspace for its simplicity and ability to assist/train a novice in meditation.

3.       Wellness ideas to consider:

  • Dr. James O’Keefe, podcast participant in #1 above, is recommending a Pesco-Mediterranean diet with intermittent fasting for longevity.

  • Dr. O’Keefe notes: “Our ancient ancestors did not have access to an unlimited supply of food throughout the year. Nor did they routinely eat three large meals, plus snacks, daily. Focusing on fresh whole foods, along with fish, bestows a range of health benefits, particularly when it comes to cardiovascular health. The Pesco-Mediterranean diet with daily time-restricted eating is an ideal cardioprotective diet."

  • Check out the full article here, and I sure hope he is right as I am currently following this eating/fasting protocol. I have to admit I am sleeping great and feeling energized daily!

4. What I’m eating, drinking, buying, or whatever else is on my mind:

  • Nasal strips to breath better during sporting activities

  • After trying nasal breathing during my fitness regiment, I realized my nasal passages are not 100% opened due to early-life orthodontics gone bad. These strips are helping open my passages during exercise.

5. Quote(s) I am Pondering:

  • “So many times we dissect failure and hardships but we don’t dissect success” – Matthew McConaughey when talking about information from his journal that he kept for 36 years

  • Great podcast on the Joe Rogan Experience with Matthew McConaughey and worth a listen. Check it out HERE

Happy Friday!

Mike
