5 Thought Friday
Took a bunch of major organ tests this week; liver, kidneys, spleen, and heart. Sharing one, the Holter Test, for the heart. Warning: If you recently ate, I recommend not checking out my photo with the Holter Monitor in Thought #3 (smile).
With that, here are your 5 Thoughts for the week:
1. What I am currently reading, viewing, or listening to:
Andrew Huberman; Podcast on the human brain and organ control
“Episode describes how the organs of the body influence the function and health of our brain and how our brain controls our bodily organs.”
A few tips to watch this episode:
Watch at 1.5x to 1.75 and start podcast at min 15:00 to skip areas of little info
Learn to regulate your heart rate via breathing mechanics - Min 18:00 to 29:00
Gut Microbiome improvement and why you should nasal breath - Min 1:01:00 to 1:20:00
Wow, new learning on how to cool a fever (counter to my homeschooling) and managing stress- Min 1:36:00 to 1:50:00
Thanks to my nephew, also Mike Santangelo, for calling out this podcast! Totally aligned with my personal mission statement!
2. Gratitude Practice (for improved happiness):
Grateful for my iPEC Life Coach peers who gave me a platform to test my soon-to-be-released sleep | mind | heart Sleep Guide. Thanks, Jenn, Vanessa, Sanaz, Asha, Wilma, and Daniel.
3. Wellness ideas to consider:
I wore a Holter Monitor for 24 hours to track my heart rhythm (see photo below). There is an unwritten internet rule that you cannot have a website called “sleep | mind | heart” without taking an official Holter test….hahaha!
A Holter monitor test may be done if a traditional electrocardiogram (ECG) doesn't give your doctor enough information about your heart's condition. With my sub-40 heart rate, my doctor thought it best for me to get more data.
The funniest, yet predictable, fact was that my lowest rate was at 5:56:49 am (31 BPM) and my highest rate for the day (82 BPM) was during a presentation at work. My average rate for the 24 hours was 46 BPM.
4. What I’m eating, drinking, buying, or whatever else is on my mind:
Mango Buddha Bowl from Cha Bei restaurant; Avocado, chickpeas, quinoa, pickled red cabbage, kale, carrots, and tomatoes with mint/coriander dressing…and of course, the mango shaped like a flower was the hero!
So great tasting and refreshing, that I was mentally whisked off to an exotic island with every bite!
5. Quote(s) I am Pondering:
“Nobody can live happy if he cares only for himself, if he turns everything to his own benefit: you have to live for others, if you want to live for yourself.” Seneca
Was feeling a bit stoic this week and this deep thought really resonated with me.
Happy Friday!
Mike
