5 Thought Friday
5 Thoughts for the week:
1. What I am currently reading, viewing, or listening to:
Be: A No-Bullsh*t Guide to Increasing Your Self Worth and Net Worth by Simply Being Yourself; Jessica Zweig
You can Be yourself and it works…WHAT?! The book is about being yourself and authentically showing up daily in everything you do. It resonated with me especially as I strive daily to live by my Personal Mission Statement.
2. Gratitude Practice (for improved happiness):
Super grateful for completing the “letting go of stress” 21-day meditation program from Headspace this week. I highly recommend a daily mediation/mindfulness ritual to start your day; it’s life-changing.
The “letting go of stress” program is one of my favorites! The focus is a visualization of your body filling with liquid sunlight that lightens your insides and whisks stress away (smile)!
3. Wellness ideas to consider:
Did I actually have to share this NYT article for us to realize this? Probably not but…. “the time we spend on our smartphones is interfering with our sleep, self-esteem, relationships, memory, attention spans, creativity, productivity, and problem-solving and decision-making skills. By chronically raising levels of cortisol, the body’s main stress hormone, our phones may be threatening our health and shortening our lives.”
Here is how I started cutting my wasted phone time by using my iPhones Screen Time function (Digital Wellbeing on Android):
Tracked the data on my pickups and notifications
Turned off notifications and deleted a few non-value-add apps
Mentally focused on slowly improving my weekly stats until I was happy with my phone usage … and like most of us, I still have some work to do!
4. What I’m eating, drinking, buying, or whatever else is on my mind:
Braised Greek-style Eggplant; chickpeas, onions, peppers, carrots, garlic, bay leaf, extra virgin olive oil, and of course Eggplant. Then loads of spices; coriander, paprika, cinnamon, turmeric, and black pepper.
Healthy and bursting with so much flavor. I added Quinoa for more protein and it all added up to my favorite meal of the year. While I do eat fish and meat on occasion, this type of meal reminds me that we can get all of our nutrients and great flavor in plants, grains, seeds, and nuts.
5. Quote(s) I am Pondering:
“When you free yourself to simply be yourself, your confidence grows, your joy expands, and your value increases. This is a daily practice, not a destination.” and she continues….”The more you become willing to show up authentically, the more magnetic you become as a person and as a professional.” Jessica Zweig, Be: A No-Bullsh*t Guide to Increasing Your Self Worth and Net Worth by Simply Being Yourself, Kindle Edition.
Happy Friday!
