5 Thought Friday
Here are 5 Thoughts for the week!
1. What I am currently reading, viewing, or listening to:
21 Lessons for the 21st Century; Yuval Noah Harari
The book’s premise is a visionary investigation into today’s most urgent issues as we move into the uncharted territory of the future. As technology advances faster than our understanding of it, Harari addresses the challenge of navigating life in the face of constant and disorienting change and raises the important questions we need to ask ourselves in order to survive. He also talks about what will the future workforce look like, and how should we ready ourselves for it
Harari also wrote one of my favorite books, Sapiens, which I read twice.
2. Gratitude Practice (for improved happiness):
Grateful for my high energy levels and awesome sleep from my third week of shifting my Intermittent Fasting (IF) meals from lunch and dinner to breakfast and lunch.
In full transparency, the shift is a challenge having zero calories at home at night but it is getting easier by the day as the body (and mind) adjusts.
3. Wellness ideas to consider:
How High Blood Sugar Wrecks Your Health: Podcast with Jessie Inchauspé aka Glucose Goddess. Thanks, Crofty for the recommendation!
Jessie believes we wrongly focused on reducing fat and calories, whereas we now know that the real health risks are the foods that deregulate our blood sugar levels. She explains why blood sugar spikes are bad for us and how (healthily) flattening those spikes can transform our health by using a few “hacks”. These include:
Starting meals with fiber (eg spinach salad), followed by proteins and fats, and then eating healthy carbs
Drinking a tablespoon of vinegar (including apple cider vinegar) in a large glass of water before or after meals
Taking a walk after meals also helps reduce blood glucose
Starting the day with a savory breakfast (see #5 below)
4. What I’m eating, drinking, buying, or whatever else is on my mind:
Easter treats: For full transparency, I decided to take a trip to the dessert bar at an Easter brunch. Back to the normal proper diet Monday after spiking my blood glucose, which Jessie Inchauspére reminded me not to do often!
5. Quote(s) I am Pondering:
“Starting the day with a savory breakfast keeps your glucose more balanced but also keeps you full longer.” Jessie Inchauspé
Greek yogurt, scrambled eggs, avocado, nut butter, blueberries/strawberries….and the list goes on. Avoid highly processed carbs like white bread in the morning.
Happy Friday!
