5 Thought Friday
Let go of the past, and watch the future unfold more vividly!
1. What I am currently reading, viewing or listening to:
“Nelson Mandela, Long Walk to Freedom” Nelson Mandela (Autobiography)
I was enthralled by Bill Clinton’s introduction, which included the quote from Mandela in #5 below. The book is long, so I purchased my first audio book along with the digital print version.
I will let you know how the audio book experiment works out.
2. Gratitude Practice (for improved happiness):
Grateful for individuals reading my blog, providing feedback and sharing their experiences to help me improve as an individual. For example, I had a recommendation to read the current book on Mandela and to focus on more research around Amy Cuddy’s small daily tweaks! (thanks Gui).
3. Wellness ideas to consider:
LectroFan High Fidelity White Noise Sound Machine
There was a typhoon this past week and thankfully no major injuries! I learned something interesting, though. The next day everyone was complaining of all the wind noise including my next door neighbor, but we all slept right through it; Irene, Lulu (our dog) and myself.
I firmly believe that the LectroFan we utilize provides a much deeper, sounder sleep and I highly recommend you try this or a similar white noise machine. I recommended this back in 2017 and I continue to stand by that recommendation. Improved sleep leads to improved energy and improved health and and and…
4. What I’m eating, drinking, buying or whatever else is on my mind:
Loving the Mediterranean diet experiment with new, colorful dishes. Scallops, peppers, capers, tomatoes, olive oil, and parsley combined with quinoa. Unbelievably healthy and delicious!!!
5. Quote(s) I am Pondering:
Nelson Mandela on walking out of prison: “I was abused. I didn’t get to see my children grow up. I lost my marriage and the best years of my life. I was angry. And I was afraid, because I had not been free in so long. But as I got closer to the car that would take me away, I realized that when I went through that gate, if I still hated them, they would still have me. I wanted to be free. And so I let it go.” Nelson Mandela, Long Walk to Freedom.
Powerful! Mandela learns from (and does not dwell on) the past. While we all kick ourselves at times for past decisions, the more you can live in the present and use the past to shape the future…the better off you will be mentally!
Happy Friday!
