5 Thought Friday
Happy Friday! It was one of those weeks that drove me back to my Stoic philosophy reading. I really enjoyed the quote in #5 below from Marcus Aurelius to help re-balance my thoughts.
1. What I am currently reading, viewing or listening to:
“Educated” Tara Westover
Fascinating true story: Tara Westover was 17 the first time she set foot in a classroom. Born to survivalists, she prepared for the end of the world by stockpiling home-canned peaches and sleeping with her "head-for-the-hills bag".
Recommended by Joe, a long-time college friend, who never steered me wrong on good reading material.
2. What is Trending in Technology, Science or Similar:
Longevity research finds that living in easily walkable, mixed age communities (i.e. not old age homes) improves your lifespan.
Not surprising, but higher socio-economic status also contributes to living longer.
3. Wellness ideas to Consider:
Change your morning routine and see how it improves your day almost immediately! Check out Part 3 of my wellness series HERE!
4. What I’m eating, drinking, buying or whatever else is on my mind:
Mandarin Classes: Restarted my Mandarin studies with Irene a few hours a week through a local student / teacher. MOP 380 for two hours (~$50 USD), which is reasonable in Macau.
5. Quote(s) I am Pondering:
“If you apply yourself to the task before you, following right reason seriously, vigorously, calmly, without allowing anything else to distract you, but keeping your divine part pure, as if you might be bound to give it back immediately; if you hold to this, expecting nothing, fearing nothing, but satisfied with your present activities according to nature, and with heroic truth in every word and sound which you utter, you will live happily. And there is no man who is able to prevent this.” Marcus Aurelius, Meditations (Dover Thrift Editions)
Happy Friday everyone!
