5 Thought Friday

Gratitude, data and plant based protein are the focus of this week’s 5 thoughts. Enjoy your weekend!

1.       What I am currently reading, viewing or listening to:

  • The Resilience Project: Finding Happiness through Gratitude, Empathy and Mindfulness” Hugh van Cuylenburg

  • The author was volunteering in northern India school when he had a life-changing realization: despite the underprivileged community the children were from, they were remarkably positive. By contrast, back in Australia too many individuals with far higher income, found it hard to be happy - why?

  • Check out why gratitude, empathy and mindfulness can make you happier than money!

2.       What is Trending in Technology, Science or Similar:

  • Google sets up first commercial 4G services in Kenya delivered by balloons. When I grew up, balloons conjured up thoughts of birthday parties and creepy clowns….but now its connecting the world.

3.       Wellness ideas to Consider:

  • Get your data! See my related blog on data HERE

  • Received my annual physical results this week and the summary is as follows:

    • Blood pressure, fasting blood sugar and cholesterol were exceptional.

    • The doctor was in shock with my 34 BPM resting heart rate on the ECG. He asked me 3x, “you sure you are ok?”

    • Most of the other items checked were in the normal range although I have a few minor items to work on including:

    1. Waistline (minor tweak required like most of us…smile)

    2. Uric acid was slightly above normal levels, so maybe I need to eat less legumes

    3. Red blood count was borderline low, so I need to do some research on how to improve that one.

you sure you are ok?

you sure you are ok?

4. What I’m eating, drinking, buying or whatever else is on my mind:

  • Trying out a new organic plant based protein powder, Sunwarrior, as recommended by Irene’s Pilates trainer (Cintia).

  • Vanilla for me and Chocolate for Irene. Lets see how it tastes and feels when it arrives next week!

5. Quote(s) I am Pondering:

  • “I have described gratitude as the ability to pay attention to what you have, instead of worrying about what you don’t have. Too many of us in Australia live by a model of happiness known as the ‘if and then’ model: If I buy this car, then I will feel happy. If I get this promotion, then I will feel happy. If we buy and live in a house like this, then we will feel happy. But the ‘if and then’ approach doesn’t work…” Hugh van Cuylenburg, The Resilience Project (p. 52), Kindle Edition.

  • My gratitude journal and taking an active approach to gratitude is life changing; try to make the effort!

Happy Friday!

Mike
