5 Thought Friday
Here are 5 Thoughts for the week!
1. What I am currently reading, viewing, or listening to:
Grit: The Power of Passion and Perseverance; Angela Duckworth
Annie Duke’s book “Quit” referenced Angela Duckwork’s book, “Grit” several times. One of my coaching clients also referenced the book during a recent chat, so I decided it must be a sign to re-read the book.
The most successful individuals fall down yet find a way to get back up through their “learned” tenacity and grit. It is a fascinating insight into the human mind and our ability to reframe difficult situations by seeing the opportunities by moving forward.
2. Gratitude Practice (for improved happiness):
Grateful for one of my coaching clients to share their passion and insights with me around “grit” and perseverance to help elevate me as an individual.
3. Wellness ideas to consider:
Perform regular medical check-ups and varying tests based on age. If you have been putting off regular check-ups and tests, then it may be time to revisit those. I did my annual physical 6 months ago with a few “outliers” that needed to be revisited, which I did over the past few weeks.
Remember one small fact: prevention is way better than cure and proper medical checks surely make you more mentally health conscious.
4. What I’m eating, drinking, buying, or whatever else is on my mind:
Japanese pumpkin with garlic and ginger.
Was riding a bus and happened to run into a work colleague who recommended this recipe. It sounded simple and healthy but nothing I ever tried before, so I tried it and it was easy and delicious. HERE is a photo of the dish.
5. Quote(s) I am Pondering:
“But anybody who reads Grit as suggesting that perseverance, absent context, is always a virtue, is misinterpreting Angela Duckworth’s work. She would never say, “Just stick with things and you’ll succeed.” She has herself written about the importance of trying lots of things (which requires that you quit lots of other things) to find the thing that you want to stick with. Duckworth, whose book makes the case for the importance of persistence, would certainly agree that knowing when to quit is a skill worth developing.” Annie Duke referencing Angela Duckworth’s Grit
Happy Friday!
