5 Thought Friday

5 thoughts for the week:

1.       What I am currently reading, viewing, or listening to:

  • Ryan Holiday Daily Stoic Podcast; What Have You Done?

  • A 3-minute podcast focusing on how you step up as individuals to help others. It references the pandemic, but it can be applied to so many areas of your life. What have you done to help or inspire others?

2.       Gratitude Practice (for improved happiness):

  • Grateful for the amazing Zoom calls the last few weeks to catch up with old friends and my three daughters (and grandson).

  • I recommend taking the time and energy to do the things that are aligned with your values and are most important to you. For me, if you check out my personal mission statement, it is about connecting with family and friends.

  • BTW, the funniest Zoom call was with a friend I have known for 50 years. We met in first grade and stayed friends ever since. After the call, my wife just laughed and wondered who the two people were on the call. She remembered all the crazy sh*t we did through the years and now we are talking about meditation, reducing stress, the proper nutrition to live longer, spending quality time with kids, our amazing wives, our aging mothers, etc. Definitely 180 degrees from our conversations 25 years ago!

3.       Wellness ideas to consider:

  • Manage your food intake by taking along your own portable scale; your hand! Here is a quick portion guide that may be valuable to you!

4. What I’m eating, drinking, buying, or whatever else is on my mind:

  • Training for a December 5 half marathon, so I have been eating a few UCAN energy bars each week during runs.

  • I knocked out a great 15.5km run last week, so hopefully not peaking too early! Why do I tell people about my runs? I find it a great way to hold yourself accountable. Try it?

5. Quote(s) I am Pondering:

  • “I’ve had a lot of worries in my life, most of which never happened.” Mark Twain, author

  • I love this quote! All we can control is ourselves in the present moment. The past is something we can learn from but not change. The future is something we see from our own belief system that could be loaded with an internal fear, limiting thoughts, past assumptions that are not true about the future, etc.

  • So stop worrying and experience the world in the present moment (yes, easier said than done)!

Happy Friday!

Mike
