5 Thought Friday
Here are my 5 Thoughts for the week on self-care and self-compassion!
1. What I am currently reading, viewing, or listening to:
It’s a short podcast (< 20 minutes at 1.5x) focused on how to be a better/happier you! Here are a couple of Tim’s idea “gems”!
21 day “No Complaint” experiment
Practice poverty for a week
The “Jar of Awesome”
Daily meditation
Journal in the morning before starting the day (the 5-minute journal)
Write 3 bullets of what you are grateful for around an old powerful relationship, opportunities for today, something great from the prior day, and something simple near you.
Thank 1 person per day and let them know how much you appreciate them
Treat yourself to 10 deep breaths when you are anxious
Nightly review of what you are grateful for - gratitude is so powerful
2. Gratitude Practice (for improved happiness):
Grateful to remind “me” that I love myself for who I am and to share it with my family! See #3 below on my Headspace Self Compassion journey.
3. Wellness ideas to consider:
Self Compassion: I did a 10-day mindfulness class that used a mantra that I enjoyed:
May I love myself for who I am
May I accept myself for who I am
May I live at ease with who I am
Then the best part. You think of someone you love and send them positive vibes in the universe by repeating:
May you love yourself for who you are
May you accept yourself for who you are
May You live at ease with who you are
Want to feel good about yourself, give yourself the gift of self-compassion, then send it to a loved one.
4. What I’m eating, drinking, buying, or whatever else is on my mind:
Self Care is on my mind this week. So, what Is Self-Care, and Why Is It Critical for Your Well-Being? Check out THIS article with an excerpt of the importance below.
Several organizations and researchers take a health-oriented approach when defining self-care. The World Health Organization defines self-care as: “the ability of individuals, families, and communities to promote health, prevent disease, maintain health, and to cope with illness and disability with or without the support of a healthcare provider.”
According to this definition, self-care includes everything related to staying physically healthy — including hygiene, nutrition, and seeking medical care when needed. It’s all the steps an individual can take to manage stressors in his or her life and take care of his or her own health and well-being.
5. Quote(s) I am Pondering:
“If your compassion does not include yourself, it is incomplete. It’s not selfish to love yourself, take care of yourself, and to make your happiness a priority.” Jack Kornfield, Author/Mindfulness teacher
Happy Friday!
